  • Michigan retailers sold nearly 260,000 more pounds of legalized marijuana in 2025 at a record low price of $58.22 per ounce & earned $3.17 billion, which is $113 million less than in 2024. A 24% wholesale tax starting Jan. 1 may further lower profits in 2026.  Stacks 92.1
  • Wing Snob opened its third Lansing location on the south side at (Jolly Cedar Plaza) on Saturday, Jan. 17. The fast-casual chain offers a 100% halal menu with spicy mango habanero wings and vegetarian cauliflower options.  Lansing City Pulse
  • Babe’s Corner will close its longtime location on Saturday, Jan. 24 before moving downtown to share a space with Strange Matter Coffee Co and Bangos at the corner (Kalamazoo and Washington Square). The owner said the move is a personal decision to secure the brands’ future.  WJIM AM

  • Jan Tichy’s immersive exhibit Darkness will open on Jan. 31 at the Broad Art Museum’s Minskoff Gallery - workers sealed off windows and entryways with custom panels to block natural light for a controlled art experience.   • UM Health-Sparrow advanced practice providers voted to form a new bargaining unit including 213 nurse practitioners, physician assistants and certified nurse midwives after an 86% approval on Jan. 14 and 16 at facilities in Lansing, Eaton and Ionia.  Lansing State Journal

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A judge blocked $645 million in state funds on Friday, halting Ingham County’s $15 million housing initiative and forcing cuts to homeowner repair programs and first-time buyer assistance.   • On Tuesday, Jan. 20, Michigan State basketball beat Oregon 68-52 at Matthew Knight Arena. Cooper scored a career-high 19 points with seven rebounds and four blocks while Carr hit three 3-pointers to power an 18-3 run in the second half.  Lansing State Journal
  • On Jan. 20, Greater Lansing girls basketball teams battled in nonleague games, with Lansing Catholic defeating Owosso 58-46, Haslett edging Okemos 56-35, and DeWitt winning 51-31 over St. Johns.
