COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ ITC is holding its first listening session today at the Okemos Event Center, 12 to 7 p.m. — followed by additional sessions in Lansing, Holt, Williamston, and Fowlerville through Feb. 5 to discuss its proposed 50-mile transmission line. WKAR
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Former Chapelure, a popular cafe that closed in December 2025, reopens as The Flaky Croissant in the former Biggby location on Hagadorn Road and Mount Hope with a soft opening planned for the third week of February. WJIM AM
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Michigan DNR reported that nearly 2,000 black bears were harvested in 2025, with 1,522 taken in the U.P.—some tipping over 500 lbs due to strong food sources and careful management. WJIM AM
- ➤ Caroline Miller, a botanical technologist at MSU, led volunteers in removing invasive plants from the Baker Woodlot last November. Her project began last May at MSU and now helps Lansing-area residents replace turf lawns with native landscapes (boosting ecosystem health). WKAR
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Michigan State University gymnastics team lost a close dual meet to UCLA at the Breslin Center on Sunday afternoon — strong home support and junior performances kept them competitive. The Spartans will travel to Ann Arbor to face Michigan at 4 p.m. Feb. 1. The State News
