- ➤ Tax season began on Jan. 26 as state and federal offices opened to receive last year’s returns. Taxpayers must file by Wednesday, April 15 to avoid penalties — online platforms or mailed returns with the proper postmark are available. Lansing State Journal

- ➤ Governor Whitmer said on Tuesday that her father, Richard Whitmer, died at 85. He was a longtime leader who guided Blue Cross Blue Shield (Michigan's largest health insurer) during a difficult time and is survived by three children and seven grandchildren. WKAR
- ➤ Ingham County has provided additional funds (76K from the Housing Trust Fund) to extend hotel stays for nearly 50 homeless residents at Causeway Bay Hotel, allowing them to remain about two more months after an initial six week period while they transition to permanent housing. WKAR

- ➤ The Michigan High School Athletic Association approved a rule letting high school athletes earn income from personal branding (including social media endorsements and public appearances) effective immediately; the rule prohibits use of school logos and athletic performance and requires athletes to report opportunities within seven days.
