COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lansing leaders will vote soon on placing the city's proposed ModPod community center for the homeless at the Ingham County Human Service Building at Jolly and Cedar roads + the recommendation came after considering six different sites.  Stacks 92.1

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Saturday nearly 100 residents attended a meeting about a proposed 24 MW data center in downtown that would donate heat to the local heating system, and City Council will vote on rezoning the parking lot + reviewing the plan on Feb. 23.  Lansing City Pulse

CULTURE NEWS

  • Capital Hippie, a downtown tie-dye shop run by Laura Castle for nearly four years, has become a vibrant local spot as downtown evolves with plans for a skyscraper, new housing and City Hall changes.   • The Michigan History Museum in Lansing is showcasing an exhibit of over 120 velvet paintings. The show, titled Black Velvet: A Rasquache Aesthetic, highlights Latino and Chicano art and features bilingual labels (English and Spanish) while carefully preserving each piece.  Lansing City Pulse

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A study released yesterday found Michigan drivers add $758 to yearly vehicle costs, with Lansing motorists paying about $940 due to poor road conditions statewide. Warmer weather will soon create more potholes so drivers are urged to maintain their vehicles.  Lansing State Journal
  • Lansing dispensaries moved 260,000 extra pounds of cannabis in 2025 but lost $113 million in revenue, and a new 24% wholesale excise tax forces cash on delivery — squeezing small shops as corporate operators consolidate. EDUCATION NEWS

  • MSU Jazz Studies finished second at the National Collegiate Jazz Championship in New York City earlier this month. The program earned $7,500 and 20 students received honors during its fourth competition appearance.  The State News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ingham County will vote on Feb. 10 to provide up to $76,500 and extend stays at Causeway Bay Lansing for about 50 people moved from a former homeless camp near Dietrich Park + residents must work on their housing plans to remain eligible.  Lansing State Journal
  • Lansing's snow ordinance requires residents to move parked vehicles during snow emergencies — noncompliance may lead to tickets or towing. Time windows vary by emergency level, so residents should follow local TV, radio, or social media alerts for updates.  Lansing State Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Red Cross warns of a severe blood shortage as donations drop 35% in the last month because of flu season and severe weather in Mid-Michigan. It is offering $20 gift cards to encourage donations that can save up to three lives.  FOX 47

  • Paradise Biryani Pointe in Okemos now features a fish korma made by braising tender white fish in coconut milk with turmeric, ginger, and fenugreek, served with garlic naan and a unique yogurt rice option.  Lansing City Pulse

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jeremy Fears Jr. scored a career-high 29 points to spark a comeback as Michigan State beat Rutgers by erasing a 12-point deficit before overtime. Coach Tom Izzo praised Fears and his teammates for key plays that helped MSU climb in Big Ten standings.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State's (19-2) Spartans will face Michigan Friday at Breslin Center; the team aims to speed up play and force turnovers to secure a home win ahead of March Madness.  WKAR
