- ➤ Lansing’s historic Moores Park Pool will reopen mid-June after a seven-year closure for repairs funded by $6.2 million — the city is recruiting lifeguards to prepare for summer use. WKAR
- ➤ On Sunday, over 300 Lansing neighbors braved 22-degree temperatures at the 22nd Law Enforcement Polar Plunge to raise $84,000 for Special Olympics athlete opportunities—Nicki Jones plunged to honor her mother, a former coach. FOX 47
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Reese Farms in DeWitt Township is working through harsh winter conditions as freezing weather makes routine tasks, like keeping livestock supplied with unfrozen water, much harder. Farmer Robert Reese said the late January harvest makes off-season maintenance crucial for spring preparation. FOX 47
- ➤ Two restaurants, Eiffel Waffle Creamery and Fidler’s on the Grand, opened in East Lansing and on North Grand River Ave in January, while Banana Republic, three GameStop stores, and a DICK’S Sporting outlet closed + Babe’s Corner is shifting to downtown Strange Matter Coffee with no reopening date. - ➤ Michigan State University campus planner Brandon List said IM West is being considered for removal due to its age and risk of flooding near the Red Cedar River while plans call for adding green spaces, such as the parking lot across from Erickson Hall (pending completion of current projects). - ➤ The MSU Board of Trustees will vote on Feb. 7 to plan the demolition of IM West, an aging fitness center. Demolition is set for spring 2027 once the new recreation center opens, and the site will be used for parking and green space near the Red Cedar River. The State News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ MSU's women's basketball team played a top 15 rivalry game Sunday at Breslin Center with a record crowd of 11,635. Although they lost 94 to 91 in overtime to Michigan, coach Fralick and players said the support energized the team and inspired young fans — adding hope for the future of women's basketball. - ➤ MSU wrestling earned their first Big Ten win at Jenison Field House with a 22-20 victory over Northwestern and snapped a five-match lost streak. The Spartans will test their momentum against the Iowa Hawkeyes Sunday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. The State News
- ➤ The Lansing State Journal is accepting votes for this week’s girls high school athlete among candidates from Eaton Rapids, Laingsburg, and Portland. Votes must be cast by noon Wednesday, Feb. 3 (with highlights including DeLaney Collins, Brooklyn Holm, and Lilly Thelen). Lansing State Journal

- ➤ Michigan State coach Tom Izzo dismissed Dusty May’s criticism of his point guard on Monday, telling critics to call him as he refocused on preparing his team for Wednesday’s game at Minnesota after a loss to a better team yesterday. - ➤ Michigan State University point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. is a midseason finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, which honors the nation’s best point guard — the list will be narrowed to five in late February with a winner chosen in April. The State News
- ➤ East Lansing boys remain the top Division 1 team according to BCAM rankings released Monday, Feb. 2. The poll shows four local boys teams in the top 10 and also ranks several area girls teams in various divisions. Lansing State Journal
