- ➤ Jennifer Miller, a K-5 academic interventionist at Fowlerville Elementary School, was named Michigan Lottery's Excellence in Education Award winner and received a $2,000 check. She has overcome health challenges and dedicated over a decade to inspiring student success. FOX 47
- ➤ High school students in the greater Lansing area are learning construction skills and management at Lansing Community College West through the Eaton RESA program — a hands-on course addressing local workforce shortages — as they build complete sheds this semester. FOX 47
- ➤ Governor Whitmer unveiled a state budget proposal on Wednesday that included a historic $625 million investment in student literacy programs statewide (covering teacher training, summer school and universal Pre-K by fall) as lawmakers plan to debate the proposal by June 30. FOX 47

- ➤ East Lansing officials are considering a camping ban that would restrict sleeping in public spaces and impose up to $25 fines for violations. They will meet on Feb. 12 with homelessness advocates to review the ordinance amid growing community concerns. Lansing State Journal
- ➤ Michigan AG Dana Nessel warned shoppers ahead of Valentine’s Day that they must verify online stores, perform image searches of products, and use credit cards to avoid scams (avoid sharing sensitive information through texts or emails). WJIM AM
- ➤ Mayor Schor approved the Ingham County Human Services Building at 5303 S Cedar St. as the site for the Nova Housing Initiative after unanimous advisory board recommendations. City staff will begin negotiations and start zoning and state licensing procedures — actions aimed at moving the project forward. FOX 47
- ➤ Governor Whitmer signed bipartisan bills at Waverly High School near Lansing Tuesday that ban cell phones in public K-12 classrooms while allowing exemptions for academic use, medical needs and emergencies. The ban takes effect this fall and excludes private schools. Stacks 92.1
