- ➤ Local Methodist churches in Holt provided $10 free gas to over 100 residents on Tuesday as part of a community initiative to begin Lent. The Catholic Diocese of Lansing emphasized almsgiving as a key part of Lent to address both physical and spiritual needs. FOX 47
- ➤ Mayor Schor announced plans to build a mod pod community on the Ingham County Human Services Building parking lot to house people experiencing homelessness. - ➤ PetalPop Cafe is set to open next month at 519 West Ionia St. in Lansing and will serve comfort food with floral notes, including lavender, rose, or hibiscus pancakes and sodas (an homage to former councilperson Lucile Belen). - ➤ Today, the Wharton Center hosts the world premiere of Sally: A Solo Play, a one-woman drama about Sally Hemings — linked to former President Jefferson. Written by local playwright Sandra Seaton and directed by Hannah Ryan, the show runs at Pasant Theatre in East Lansing through Feb. 21. WKAR

- ➤ Michigan State University’s Board of Trustees voted last Friday to demolish the historic IM West by spring, removing its 190,000 sqft facility that served decades of student recreation. The building’s legacy will live on in memories and traditions (including its famous oversized door) from its long history on campus. The State News
- ➤ Jacob Dohrmann, a middle school STEAM teacher at Reese Middle School, was named this week's Michigan Lottery Excellence in Education award winner. He received a $2,000 check for his work with classroom and after-school programs. FOX 47
- ➤ Capital Area District Libraries have selected six new titles for Black History Month, featuring both fiction and nonfiction that highlight diverse narratives and resilience. The collection is now available to borrow at local branches. Lansing State Journal

- ➤ The Lansing Brownfield Redevelopment Authority approved a plan to build 124 Capitol Walk Apartments on a downtown parking lot off Chestnut Street, developed by Lawton Group. City Council will review the proposal on March 9 and if approved, construction will begin this fall. Lansing State Journal

- ➤ MSU women’s basketball celebrated a senior day win Wednesday evening with a 104-68 victory over Northwestern at Breslin Center, as five seniors combined for 63 points to help snap a two-game skid. The team will prepare to face ranked Minnesota Sunday at 6 p.m. The State News
