- ➤ Sheetz has proposed a second location in Lansing Township at 3815 W. St. Joseph St. The Planning Commission recommended the 6,139-sqft site plan on Feb. 18 and the Board will vote on it on Feb. 24 + construction may begin later this year. Lansing State Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ingham ISD is asking voters to approve a $99.96 million bond for a new special needs center in Lansing that will replace the aging Beekman Center; a May 5 vote would add about ($55) annually for property owners of $100,000 homes over 20 years. Lansing State Journal
- ➤ The Okemos school board is interviewing six finalists to choose a new superintendent — including two local candidates from Perry and Fowlerville public schools — with interviews set Feb. 23–25 at Okemos High School library. The board aims to appoint a new leader by July 1. Lansing State Journal
- ➤ On Wednesday, Feb. 19, Lansing Community College held the grand opening of The Changemakers Center at the Gannon Building, featuring an interactive display honoring 30 local figures who advanced change in the African American community (including inductees like Paula Cunningham and Maxine Hankins Cain). - ➤ Michigan residents are urged to file 2025 tax returns early as scammers ramp up phishing attacks during tax season, with the IRS and treasury advising the use of an IP PIN (a six-digit code) and online practices. - ➤ The DOJ announced Wednesday that it launched investigations into the Lansing School District, Detroit Public Schools Community District and Godfrey-Lee Public Schools (in Wyoming) to examine classroom content and access to single-sex facilities. - ➤ The Michigan State Housing Development Authority set a 2025 record by issuing 6,193 home assistance loans totaling one-billion dollars — the highest since 1966, with CEO Amy Hovey noting that home ownership remains a strong path to economic security. Stacks 92.1

- ➤ At a Feb. 19 meeting, University of Michigan leaders considered about $143 million in funding for two new facilities at Health-Sparrow Lansing near downtown (a new 64-bed psychiatric hospital and a $60 million outpatient surgery center) to update and expand care services. Lansing State Journal
