  • Sparty’s Markets replaced Alani and Celsius with Ai Energy and Bum Energy after Pepsi’s price hike made the former unsustainable, as the spring semester began.   • Twenty years ago, Wii Sports launched to great impact, shaping motion control and graphics in modern gaming. Experts from Michigan State University recall its simple design (a fond childhood memory) sparking new gaming features and reminding players of its creative role (an enduring legacy).  The State News

  • Michigan school districts are actively searching for experienced superintendents as many leaders retire — including at Okemos and across Lansing, Potterville, and surrounding areas — to ease the shortage caused by fewer new teachers.  WKAR

  • The Lansing Board of Water and Light says it has removed coal ash from the retired Erickson Power Station and is now tracking groundwater contamination near Delta Township. Local residents continue to worry about drinking water quality (evaluation results are due by Feb. 9).  WKAR

  • Michigan’s statewide tornado drill—organized by the Michigan State Police’s Emergency Management division—is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 at 1 p.m. to help residents test emergency procedures and review safe shelter options.  WJIM AM

  • Orkin's annual list names 4 Michigan cities among the 50 where bed bug infestations have been reported, with Lansing appearing for the first time; spring break travelers are advised to carefully inspect their accommodations.  WJIM AM

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Feb. 20, Haslett's girls basketball team won a CAAC Red game over Eastern 63-33, with Christina Dixon surpassing 1,000 career points by scoring 12 points, as Avery Hannah led with 18 points (team record 18-2).  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State hockey beat Notre Dame 4-2 on Thursday at Munn Ice Arena in a tight game that tested the team before an 8-2 win on Friday put them on track for the Big Ten title as the No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State faces Ohio State today at 1:00 p.m. at the Breslin Center in a college basketball game. The Spartans aim to improve their NCAA seeding while the Buckeyes cope with a key injury (Mobley sidelined) amid competitive play expected.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State gymnastics defeated Ohio State Saturday night with a team score of 197.300–196.850. Gabi Ortiz and MaKayla Tucker led with standout floor routines—helping build momentum as the Spartans prepare for upcoming Big Ten competition.  The State News
  • MSU dodgeball captured its fifth consecutive Michigan Dodgeball Cup at Demonstration Hall, shutting out Central Michigan and Western Michigan before defeating Grand Valley State. The undefeated team will prepare for national championships later this year to keep its top ranking.  The State News
