ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Community members gathered Sunday evening in Union City to honor tornado victims after the storm killed 3 and injured 12 on Friday and Governor Whitmer declared a state of emergency for Branch County as recovery efforts began.  FOX 47

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MSU professor Laura Chomiuk mentors future astronomers by leading nova explosion research and a radio imaging project of Andromeda (using the campus High Performance Computing Center) while hosting public observation nights. She helps students seize research opportunities and explore astrophysics.  The State News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A new report says solar power in Michigan grew from 1% in 2023 to 4.5% last year thanks to improved battery storage. Michigan is set to lead solar growth with more than 3,600 MW scheduled to come online by 2028 (the largest solar pipeline in the area).  WKAR

HEALTH NEWS

  • After clocks advanced an hour Sunday for daylight saving time, family nurse practitioner Abbas Kang from McLaren Greater Lansing Sleep and Alertness Center said many locals feel tired and face potential health risks. He recommends adjusting sleep routines gradually to help the body adjust.  WKAR

  • Based on WKAR and City Pulse’s 2025 Top of the Town contest, five family-friendly restaurants were chosen. SPORTS NEWS

  • Nine Greater Lansing girls basketball teams begin their state tournament regionals today as local matchups unfold across divisions. DeWitt will face Sturgis at 5:30 p.m. in Division 1 while teams in Divisions 2, 3 and 4 compete at Tecumseh, New Lothrop and Fowler respectively.  Lansing State Journal
  • After clinching the Big Ten regular season title, MSU hockey tied Minnesota 3-3 and then lost in a shootout, leaving the Spartans with a first-round bye for the tournament on March 14; coach Adam Nightingale said the tough game gave the team valuable playoff experience.  The State News
  • Following a 90-80 loss to Michigan, MSU men’s basketball has turned focus to postseason play and will begin Big Ten tournament action on Friday, Mar. 13 in Chicago (after receiving a triple-bye).  The State News
  • Lansing Community College’s women’s basketball team won the Region 12 Great Lakes District A championship on Sunday at Mott’s Ballinger Fieldhouse in Flint, earning an automatic bid to the NJCAA Division II national tournament from March 16 to 21 in Hickory (NC). It is the team’s first appearance in 30 years.  Lansing State Journal
