  • Today in Lansing, McLaren Greater Lansing is hosting a free physician lecture on unlocking gut health from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. at its event center, and the City Clerk’s Office is taking walk-in passport applications from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. The Parks and Recreation Department is holding its second open house for community input on updating its master plan from 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at Fenner Nature Center.  FOX 47

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bombay Mahal Indian Cuisine, owned and run by chef Arosh Choudhury, is set to open later this month on Lansing's west side at 2010 W. Saginaw Street (a vacant building formerly home to Colala Express) and will offer over 60 Indian dishes with dine-in and takeout options while hiring at least five employees.  Lansing State Journal

  • Michigan residents can watch a total lunar eclipse that turns the full moon red, starting at 11:57 p.m. on March 13 and ending at 6 a.m.—the moon reaches its peak red color at 2:58 a.m. People should find a clear, dark spot and use binoculars or a telescope for the best view.  Lansing State Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Early Friday morning, Lansing residents will watch a total lunar eclipse as the moon passes through Earth’s shadow+ it turns red and reaches totality at 2:59 a.m. The eclipse begins at 1:09 a.m. and ends at 3:32 a.m.  WKAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan officials will sound tornado sirens on March 19 at 1 p.m. for a statewide drill to help residents prepare for severe weather (part of Severe Weather Awareness Week) and remind everyone to know their safe spots.  Lansing State Journal
  • The state House passed a resolution urging the Michigan High School Athletic Association to bar transgender girls from competing in girls’ sports on a 66—43 vote. Eight Democrats joined Republicans in backing the non-binding measure even though the MHSAA already set participation rules for fall sports next year.  Stacks 92.1

  • Giggles & Gourmets in Grand Rapids opened a play café that offers coffee, baked goods and a safe spot for toddlers. The idea has locals thinking Lansing could use a similar venue—places like the Lansing Mall may serve as options.  WJIM AM
