BUSINESS NEWS

  • New Jersey-based Bubbakoo's Burritos will open its second Michigan location this summer at a 1,500-square-foot storefront on E-Saginaw St, serving burritos, tacos and its unique Chiwawa. The restaurant will offer take-out and seating for about 20 people and may expand if its service meets local expectations.  Lansing State Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In 2023, Michigan farmers produced more squash, asparagus, and cherries than any other state and ranked in the top 10 for 27 crop categories. The USDA report shows they also grew extra crops like honey, eggs, and bell peppers — highlighting the state’s strong agricultural output.  Lansing State Journal

  • Lansing School District Superintendent Ben Shuldiner—one of three finalists for a job in Las Vegas—will stay in his role after the Clark County School District Board of Trustees chose Jhone Ebert as its new superintendent.  Lansing State Journal

  • On March 14, a spokesperson said the City Rescue Mission will likely demolish the 148-year-old Glaister House—an old Queen Anne home—in downtown to build a rainwater detention pond after experts found little value in restoring it.  Lansing City Pulse

  • MSU advertisement management junior Yashika Ramchandani—motivated by her sister’s type 1 diabetes diagnosis—created T100 Pro Bars, an all-natural power bar with an authentic Indian recipe that will be on the market by the end of April to help those with diabetes and hypoglycemia.  The State News

  • Local vendors at the Lansing Home and Garden Show shared DIY tips to help homeowners save money on projects as the weather warms. Terry Wooley from Carter Lumber advised planning ahead (to select the right supplies), while others suggested breaking tasks into steps and using household items for gardening.  FOX 47

  • The Michigan State University men’s basketball team beat the Oregon Ducks 74+64 on Friday in the Big Ten Tournament to win a spot in the semifinals. The Spartans will play the winner of the UCLA-Wisconsin game today on the Big Ten Network.  The State News
