ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd was closed at Warwick Dr in Lansing because of a downed utility pole — the City of Lansing asked drivers to avoid the area.  WLNS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Federal budget freezes have cut funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative—a key program that helps Michigan control invasive species—leaving state experts warning that pests like Sea Lamprey, Zebra mussels, and Quagga mussels could further damage local waterways. State officials say renewed funding is needed to protect the Great Lakes ecosystem.  WJIM AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan State University is not under federal investigation for alleged racial discrimination in its diversity, equity, and inclusion programs even as 51 other colleges face probes—campus leaders reviewed their practices but no further action was taken (this move follows a federal request for certification under funding rules).  The State News
  • On April 1st, 2025, USPS in Michigan will change how mail is delivered under a new plan that affects First-Class Mail, periodicals and package services. Some mail may arrive faster while others might face slight delays due to a branch closure and a small price rise for First-Class Forever stamps—from 68 cents to 73 cents—while the plan aims to save $36 billion over the next decade.  WJIM AM
  • The Lansing Police Department released results from a four-year survey with Zencity that shows residents now list violence as their top public safety concern and that feelings of safety differ between older and younger neighbors. The survey data were presented by LPD and the Lansing Empowerment Network on Wednesday, and come after a Thursday night incident near South Washington Square when a 29-year-old male was hospitalized after multiple gunshots were reported.  FOX 47

HEALTH NEWS

  • Michigan health officials confirmed the first measles case of 2025 in an adult who returned from overseas+ they are urging residents to review their vaccination records and seek medical care if symptoms appear. Officials also noted potential exposures at two Rochester sites+ anyone who may have visited these locations should contact their doctor immediately.  Lansing State Journal
