  • Good Truckin' Diner will open for breakfast at 7 a.m. on Monday, March 17th, 2025 at its new space in Old Town—1218 Turner Street—on St. Patrick's Day after moving from its smaller spot in REO Town. The diner spent months expanding its setting in the building that once hosted The Creole Southern Kitchen and Burger Bar.  WJIM AM

CRIME NEWS

  • Police say there was no shooting at Lansing Mall during the Cage Fight Championships Saturday night — hundreds fled in panic until a rapid response by the Eaton County Sheriff's Office and local police confirmed there were no victims or suspects — after reports sparked fear of an active shooter.  Lansing State Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Saturday, strong winds gusting up to 57 mph caused more than 26,000 Michigan customers to lose power (with Consumers Energy reporting over 22,000 outages) as crews worked to restore power and warned residents to stay clear of downed lines. The National Weather Service says a cold front will bring rain and snow later on Sunday as temperatures drop.  Lansing State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan DNR urges residents to remove backyard bird feeders and baths this spring to slow the spread of diseases like avian influenza and salmonella — and to reduce bear encounters as bears leave hibernation.  WJIM AM
  • Lansing leads the state with 11 roundabouts that ease traffic and lower collision risks—one roundabout near the Capitol Building directs drivers along busy E. Michigan Ave and Washington Square.  WJIM AM
  • Residents must file their 2024 federal income tax returns by April 15, 2025 and are urged to use e-filing with direct deposit (for faster refunds) while an extension is available until Oct.15, 2025 if more time is needed.  Lansing State Journal
