BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bombay Mahal Indian Cuisine will open before the end of March at 2010 W Saginaw Street on Lansing's west side—replacing Colala Express. The new restaurant will serve over 60 dishes including butter chicken and tandoori chicken to boost the local dining scene.  WJIM AM
  • Frontier Airlines announced summer 2025 deals from Michigan that include free carry-ons, seat selection and flight changes under its 'Your New Love' program — fares start at $39 and Discount Den members can fly for $29 when booking nonstop flights by March 24th. The airline will also offer a free checked bag for flights departing May 28th to Aug. 18th using a promo code and add first class seating on every flight starting late 2025 — the deal is available through its website and mobile app.  Lansing State Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Lansing Police are seeking help in finding an 11 year old runaway named Eamon Williams who was last seen Sunday, March 16th between 1:00 and 6:00 p.m. in the 1100 block of West Shiawassee Street near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard—he wore faded light blue jeans with a black hoodie showing DRIP in a colorful script.  Lansing State Journal
  • Lansing Police Lieutenant Ryan Wilcox, a 23-year veteran charged with defrauding the city by working side jobs and using city resources for personal trips, pleaded no contest last week to a misdemeanor embezzlement charge—he will be sentenced on May 1 and may keep his pension if the board rules in his favor.  Lansing State Journal
  • The East Lansing Police Department said a shooting on March 17 at Lake Lansing and Abbot roads left the victim out of the hospital and that they are processing evidence and interviewing witnesses — there is no indication of a public threat.  City of East Lansing

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Department of Energy released nearly $57 million from a federal loan to support Holtec's plan to restart the decommissioned Palisades nuclear power plant in Covert—once it produced 800 megawatts of power. Local officials say the project is on schedule, will save 600 jobs and deliver clean power to nearly 800,000 homes when it meets regulatory approvals.  Lansing State Journal
  • Lansing’s charter commission has voted to keep the strong mayor system while cutting the City Council to seven and adding a fifth ward—aiming to boost government accountability with stricter rules for elected officials. One commission member said she will vote no on sending the charter revisions to voters, calling the effort a waste of time.  Lansing State Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Julie Phillips, a family doctor and head of MSU College of Human Medicine’s Family Medicine Department, urged medical students to join Michigan Family Medicine Advocacy Day in Lansing on March 18 to help fill the growing shortage of primary care doctors. She explained that state loan repayment programs are vital as Michigan could be short over 800 doctors by 2030.  Michigan State University Today
