EDUCATION NEWS

  • The MSU Skate Club builds an inclusive community on campus by offering free loaner boards and informal lessons so students can try skateboarding and connect with peers – the club also hosts social events that unite new and seasoned skaters.  The State News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Deep Green, a London-based company, has proposed a 24-megawatt, $120 million data center project for Lansing that will use waste heat to power a district heating system run by the Board of Water and Light with a council vote scheduled for April 6 to cut energy costs and carbon emissions.  Bridge Michigan

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A 1965 law that lets companies skip property taxes for pollution controls has cost Michigan cities billions in lost revenue, and nearly half of exempted facilities broke air quality rules. EGLE (lacking staff) says cities have little oversight while tax losses strain budgets.  Bridge Michigan
  • A U.S. F-35 jet made an emergency landing on March 20 at a Middle Eastern air base after being struck during a combat mission over Iran, and an investigation is underway. Michigan suppliers helped build the jet, supporting local jobs and boosting economic impact.  Lansing State Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA issued a recall on March 16 for Children's Ibuprofen Oral Suspension after complaints of black particles were reported in (89,592) 4-oz bottles sold nationwide, including here. Consumers are advised to stop using the product as the investigation continues.  Lansing State Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Spartans advance to the NCAA tournament second round and will face Louisville at KeyBank Center at 2:45 p.m. today after a record-setting first-round win. Coach Tom Izzo expects his team to play smart while guarding against outside shots.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State beat North Dakota State 92-67 in Buffalo on March 19 as point guard Jeremy Fears earned 11 assists and helped energize the team. The Spartans are set to face 6-seed Louisville today at 2:45 p.m. on CBS to advance in the NCAA tournament.  Lansing State Journal
  • MSU women's basketball begins its NCAA Tournament run as the No. 5 seed, playing Colorado State tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Norman (Oklahoma). The Spartans seek to advance to the second round after recent offensive struggles.  The State News
  • MHSAA girls basketball finals are happening today at Breslin Center (534 Birch Road) with games starting at 10 a.m. and continuing until after 6 p.m. Tickets cost $14 and must be purchased in person.  Lansing State Journal
