  • Altu’s Ethiopian Cuisine has opened its second location at 4738 Central Park Drive in Okemos. The restaurant, known for its longtime East Lansing location, now serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.  WJIM AM

CULTURE NEWS

  • TEDxMSU held its 12th annual event on Mar. 22 at the Wharton Center’s Pasant Theater, with talks on astronomy, AI, relationships, and personal journeys built around the theme (sonder). Curators aimed to boost community awareness by encouraging audience members to recognize the unique stories behind every passerby.  The State News

  • State parks across Michigan will soon offer free fishing classes for beginners as spring approaches; the courses cover casting, knot tying, and other basics to prep for a season starting April 1 (participants over 17 need a fishing license, so call your local park for dates).  Lansing State Journal

  • A new study finds monarch butterflies are at risk as their habitats disappear, and experts urge local gardeners to plant native milkweed & nectar-rich flowers to support their migration in Michigan.  WJIM AM
  • Hummingbirds will begin migrating in late April and peak in mid-May, and locals are advised to prepare their feeders by hanging them in shaded spots with a nectar mix of 1 part sugar to 4 parts water—helping attract Ruby-Throated hummingbirds that visit for summer feeding and mating.  WJIM AM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Last Sunday night at Oklahoma, Michigan State’s women’s basketball team lost a close NCAA tournament game (77-71) in the second round; the Spartans will build on their progress by adding new players next season.  Lansing State Journal
  • After beating Louisville on Saturday, Michigan State advanced to the Sweet 16 and sparked campus unity as students celebrated the win. Many expressed pride and excitement while following the team’s progress into the next tournament round.  The State News
  • Michigan State hockey earned a No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and will face No. 4 seed UConn on March 26 at 1:30 p.m. ET at the DCU Center in Worcester — marking their third consecutive tournament appearance.  The State News
  • Michigan State hockey coach Adam Nightingale was confirmed as head coach of Team USA's 2027 World Juniors on Tuesday, March 17; he will lead the team in Edmonton and Red Deer from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.  The State News
