COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents at Kristana Mobile Home Park in Lansing got a Friday notice to leave by April 1 because of declining occupancy, and managers said they will offer 30 days of hotel housing starting today. Neighbors say the short notice leaves little time to pack and worry about issues such as water shutoffs, storage concerns, and finding new homes.  WLNS

CULTURE NEWS

  • On March 29, Brrs, Beards and Brews: A Lumberjack Festival was held in Old Town Lansing where teams competed in contests such as swinging sausages and beard competitions—hundreds joined to enjoy the quirky events. Organizers hosted a variety of skill-testing challenges that brought local residents together in a lively celebration.  WJIM AM
  • The Capital City Film Festival will show over 100 short films bundled by theme, featuring packages like 'Absurdly Funny' + 'ReelAbilities' at venues including Central United Methodist Church, Stage One, and Robin Theatre. Screenings start Wednesday, April 2 at 8:15 p.m. and continue through April 12 with free events and discussions.  Lansing State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan House will focus on bills—aiming to form a public safety and violence prevention fund that cuts 1.5% of sales tax revenue for local governments and sheriff’s departments after spring break. The bipartisan measure will give funds based on local crime rates—areas with less drop in violent crime risk losing support.  WKAR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Aldi is recalling Happy Farms Colby Jack shredded cheese after customer complaints reported possible metal fragments that could hurt if swallowed. The recall covers products with best by dates July 13 and July 14 and involves about 400 cases across Michigan, Connecticut and Ohio.  WJIM AM
  • Michigan consumers are advised to check their fridges as Cargill Kitchen Solutions is recalling 212,268 pounds of liquid eggs due to possible sodium hypochlorite contamination from a cleaning product—affected items include Egg Beaters original and cage free egg substitutes and Bob Evans Better’n Eggs sold in 32 oz cartons coded G1804, which should be discarded or returned for a refund.  WJIM AM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan State basketball ended its season on Sunday when Auburn beat the Spartans 70-64 in the Elite Eight of March Madness. The loss ended the team's run and dashed Coach Tom Izzo’s Final Four hopes.  Lansing State Journal
  • Jeremy Fears Jr. led MSU to a 73-70 win over Ole Miss, which gave the Spartans a 30-win season and left them one win from the Final Four. MSU will play Auburn in Sunday’s regional final at State Farm Arena at 5:05 p.m. — Fears has shown strong play since his recovery from a thigh injury — as the team looks to keep winning.  Lansing State Journal
