COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Ingham County Prosecutor's Office and Small Talk Children's Advocacy Center recognized Child Abuse Awareness Month by planting 50 blue and silver pinwheels outside the Veterans Memorial Courthouse on Monday, Apr. 6. The event also featured courtroom advocate dog Basil and about 20 community members.  Lansing State Journal
  • Steve Tennes is finishing pruning at his 213-acre Country Mill Farms southwest of East Lansing as he monitors spring temperatures to protect apple, peach and blueberry crops. The farm will open its u-pick season for organic blueberries on July 22 and schedule family fall harvest events later.  WKAR

  • Consumers Energy plans to sell its 13 dams to Confluence Hydro for $1 each, prompting community concerns + state regulators to push for careful review. The Michigan Public Service Commission will decide on the deal later this year while the company asserts that the buyer will operate the dams safely.  WKAR

  • P-W's Grady Eklund, the second all-time leading scorer in Greater Lansing, led the Michigan Sports Writers Division 3 all-state squad after guiding his team to a state title, while coach Dominic Schneider earned top Division 3 honors after a 27 to 2 season.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State hockey senior center Tiernan Shoudy signed a professional contract with the Wheeling Nailers for the rest of the 2025-26 season, making him the eighth Spartan to go pro using his trusted play in key moments under coach Adam Nightingale.  The State News
  • Michigan State starting guard Rashunda Jones entered the transfer portal Tuesday, becoming the fourth Spartan women's basketball player to do so and reducing the team's roster to five players.  The State News
  • Michigan State women's basketball starter Rashunda Jones entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, April 7 after averaging 11.7 points per game and starting 28 of 31 games last season. Her move leaves Kennedy Blair as the only primary starter returning.  Lansing State Journal
