- ➤ DNR officials said that black bears are moving further south with nearly 2,000 now in the Lower Peninsula and sightings in areas like Traverse City, Grand Rapids and Midland—residents are advised to secure food sources such as birdseed and garbage to keep bears away from homes. - ➤ Researchers at NOAA are testing an early detection system for meteotsunamis that cause sudden waves over Michigan's Great Lakes when barometric pressure changes (averaging 106 events a year). - ➤ The City of East Lansing updated residents on the LBWL franchise fee ruling after the Michigan Supreme Court halted the 5% fee on electricity sold in the city from 2017 to 2025 and held collected funds pending further circuit court action. City Manager Robert Belleman said the City will work with the court and plaintiffs’ counsel to set refund amounts and eligibility— the legal process may take months. City of East Lansing
- ➤ City officials said tariff-driven economic uncertainty may affect about one-quarter of Lansing's revenue, which comes from income taxes that change with employment trends—Mayor Schor proposed a $307 million budget that includes more funds for public services and road repairs.
