- ➤ Mayor Andy Schor declares today '102nd United States Colored Troops Day' to honor Michigan's only African American Civil War regiment, and the Gospel Army Black History Group with the Capital Area District Library hosts a free, hour-long living history program at the Foster Community Center Branch Library at 1 p.m. WKAR
- ➤ More than 500 people attended the Greater Lansing Food Bank Empty Plate Dinner and auction on Thursday, April 9 at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center in East Lansing to help provide over one million meals. The event celebrated 45 years by honoring its founders with a special Founders' Award. Lansing State Journal

- ➤ Local theaters are offering a range of performances this week. George Orwell’s '1984' opened at LCC’s Dart Auditorium on Friday, April 10, while productions at Ixion Theater, MSU venues, and Starlight Dinner Theatre will run in the coming days. Lansing State Journal

- ➤ Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (MSU alum) will speak at the spring undergraduate convocation at 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 1 at the Breslin Center, as announced by MSU President Kevin Guskiewicz. Lansing State Journal
- ➤ MSU Science Festival invites the community to a free STEAM Expo today and tomorrow at the STEM Teaching and Learning Facility in East Lansing. The event offers more than 100 hands-on activities and hourly talks for all ages (including interactive sessions led by MSU students). WKAR
- ➤ Michigan State University is working to improve course scheduling and seat availability by collecting data & student feedback through surveys and meetings. A full report will be ready by July to guide future changes at the university. The State News
- ➤ Michigan State University's Board of Trustees voted Friday, Apr. 10 to merge the College of Human Medicine and College of Osteopathic Medicine into Michigan State University Medicine, a reorganization that will begin with a steering committee and take about two years despite faculty concerns. - ➤ The Michigan State University Board of Trustees approved a 5% increase in housing and dining rates on Friday for the 2026-27 academic year, raising the cost of a basic double residence hall and silver meal plan to $13,574 while also increasing rates for 1855 Place and University Village apartments to help fund maintenance and improvements. - ➤ Asian needle ants — small, dark and painful — have been seen in Ohio and Wisconsin, though they have not been reported in Michigan. Scientists warn the invasive species could disrupt native insects and local ecosystems if they spread further. Lansing State Journal
