- ➤ Robbins United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids has taken over the free prom dress giveaway after Ever After Opportunities closed in March, offering over 500 new and used dresses for Lansing area teens every Saturday in April from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—the church also welcomes community donations on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays and plans to continue similar events in the fall. - ➤ The Greater Lansing Food Bank hosted its 17th annual Empty Plate Strolling Dinner and Auction yesterday to fight hunger in our communities. Katlyn Cardoso joined local anchors Jorma Duran and Megan Viecelli as the food bank aimed to raise funds to equal 1 million meals for those in need. WLNS
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On March 6th, 27-year-old Henry Troyer from the Gladwin County Amish community died in a buggy crash when an SUV tried to pass a school bus, and on March 26th, 8-year-old Alma Yoder died in Van Buren County in a crash by a woman alleged to be high on prescription pills—local law enforcement set aside a $70,000 OHSP grant to increase patrols and lower speed limits in Amish areas—to improve road safety. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Michigan State University police arrested 19 people around 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hannah Administration building when protesters—urging the school to divest from Israel and support international students who had their visas revoked—refused to leave after repeated warnings; all were charged with misdemeanor trespassing and released soon after. - ➤ Michigan's updated car seat law took effect on April 2nd and bans children under 13 from riding in the front seat when a back seat is available—while setting new age rules for rear-facing, front-facing and booster seats—designed to increase road safety. WJIM AM
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Health officials warn that measles cases are rising in Michigan after an adult in Macomb County who visited Canada was confirmed, with additional cases reported in Oakland and Kent counties—more than 600 cases have been seen in 19 states and two deaths occurred. They say getting the MMR vaccine is the best protection against this highly contagious virus. WJIM AM
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Michigan State University selected G and G Project Sparta LLC, a joint venture led by Lansing developer Pat Gillespie and Goldenrod Companies, to build the Spartan Gateway District at MSU, which will include a $150 million Olympic sports arena, hotel, apartments, restaurants and office space. The project will be built in three phases with the arena scheduled to open late 2027 and later phases planned through 2030. Lansing State Journal

- ➤ Michigan State football has added extra eyes to its coaching staff—Jon Boyer returned as quarterbacks coach and James Adams joined in January after a new NCAA rule allowed more on-field coaches.
