COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Students for Justice in Palestine and the Muslim Student Association hosted the second annual Race for Humanity on Sunday at MSU and raised over $9,000 for Gaza — the race was rescheduled from April 6 because of flooding and more than 88 people ran a 5k starting at Conrad Hall. Some participants ran virtually, and the funds will be donated to UNICEF to support children’s hospitals and others in need in Gaza. The State News
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A Grand Rapids man aged 54 crashed his motorcycle on U.S. 127 south of Mason at about 11:45 a.m. Sunday, was thrown from his bike which then caught fire, and was taken to Sparrow Hospital in serious but stable condition while northbound U.S. 127 was closed between Barnes Road and Bellevue Road for about 2.5 hours—police said alcohol or drugs were not factors. - ➤ US Rep. John James joined the crowded field for Michigan governor when he announced his campaign on April 7—he said his experience would replace policies he described as radical. He is the seventh official candidate in the 2026 race that will select a governor to take office in 2027—Michigan looks for seasoned leadership as the contest unfolds. Lansing State Journal

- ➤ MSU baseball rallied on Sunday to win a 3-1 rubber match against Northwestern as junior right-hander Nolan Higgins pitched six strong innings and timely hits in the sixth inning—lifting the Spartans to a record of 18-15. They will face Western Michigan Tuesday at 6 p.m.—aiming to build on their win. The State News
- ➤ Lansing Community College basketball players Kara Bartels and Zander Woodruff earned NJCAA All-America honors after strong seasons. Bartels made the second team and Woodruff the third team, and both players have not yet decided where they will play next season — their choices may affect LCC’s future rosters. Lansing State Journal
- ➤ The MSU women’s tennis team lost to Washington but beat Oregon in a close match on the weekend, with key singles wins by freshman Amara Brahmbhatt and senior Liisa Vehvilainen clinching the win—improving the team’s record to 13 to 10. - ➤ The Michigan State women’s basketball team added former Purdue guard Rashunda Jones from the transfer portal on Sunday.
