COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Groesbeck Golf Course kicks off its 100th season today at 12:30 p.m. at 1523 E. Cesar E. Chavez Ave+ the free event will feature opening remarks at 1 p.m., a flag raising at 1:15 p.m., and ceremonial drives by local dignitaries including Mayor Andy Schor.  Lansing State Journal
  • Cindy Lou, the first female Zeke the Wonderdog, will debut as Zeke V at Spartan Stadium on April 18 during the MSU football Spring Showcase — continuing a cherished MSU tradition after Buckshot's passing.  FOX 47

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire damaged one building at Woodbridge Manor Apartments on Saturday, leaving the complex boarded up and neighbors shaken as officials have not yet released details.  FOX 47

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Michigan rose 11¢ to $3.98 a gallon on Monday (Benton Harbor reached $4.11 while Flint stayed at $3.88), and AAA Michigan noted that prices are 38¢ higher than last month and 88¢ above last year.  Stacks 92.1

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lansing Christian School canceled classes today after two principals were placed on leave and 10 teachers were told they would not return next year, prompting staff to demand the head of school and board resign. Parents have also pressed for clear answers on these changes.  WKAR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) updated its guidelines on 11 household items that cannot be disposed of in trash during spring cleaning. Lansing residents should check the rules to sort items properly and avoid extra waste fees.  WJIM AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At an MSU event Monday, Apr. 13, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins and Rep. Tom Barrett announced $275 million in grant funding for specialty crops. The program, offering up to $80 million per year — following recent tax cuts — aims to support local farmers.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan residents must file federal and state returns for 2025 by tomorrow, April 15, or request a six-month extension to avoid late filing penalties while paying any owed taxes by the deadline; mailed returns risk delays if not hand stamped in time.  Lansing State Journal
  • Lansing is exploring new plans for a three-acre downtown lot near Kalamazoo and Larch streets after Deep Green pulled its application for a $120 million data center — neighbors have shared ideas as the mayor’s office plans to reopen the request for proposals.  FOX 47

HEALTH NEWS

  • MSU held its annual Out of the Darkness walk on Sunday to support suicide prevention on campus + raised over $12,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Volunteers highlighted mental health resources and stressed that help is available through the 988 crisis service.  FOX 47

SPORTS NEWS

  • MSU hockey freshman forward Austin Baker became the fourth player to enter the transfer portal when he committed to Miami Ohio; he played 14 games (2 in 2026) and recorded one assist while competing on the fourth line.  The State News
  • Davis Diaz helped the Lugnuts win four of six games over Fort Wayne with an 11-for-18 showing and strong defense. He was named the league's player of the week (the first award this season) as the team prepares for a six-game series today.  Lansing State Journal
  • Seniors Grace VanSlooten and Jalyn Brown from MSU, after a historic season in East Lansing, will see if their names are called in the WNBA Draft tonight at 7 p.m. on ESPN.  The State News
  • Two Greater Lansing players — junior Gracelyn Rockey of Portland St. Patrick and Isabella Halfmann of Fowler — were named to the Michigan Sports Writers Division 4 all-state team, with Rockey surpassing 1,000 career points during a season with strong averages.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State women’s tennis beat Rutgers 4-1 on Saturday at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center and then lost 4-1 to Maryland on Sunday due to serving struggles & unforced errors. Head coach Kim Bruno said the result shows the team’s improvement as they wrap up the season at 11-11.  The State News
