COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At the VFW National Home in Eaton Rapids, veterans participated in the Guitars for Vets program that offered one-on-one guitar lessons on Feb. 18th, March 3rd and March 4th to help ease service-related trauma—local instructors taught veterans from Lansing and nearby areas.  Lansing State Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lansing’s aviation history began with a stunt flight on October 15th, 1911 at a former racetrack later turned into a golf course, and the first airfield opened in 1919 before a modern Capital City Airport began operations on May 1st, 1926 — a shift that led to milestones such as air mail delivery in 1928 — setting the stage for decades of local flight history.  WJIM AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has launched a new online form for people having trouble with their Social Security benefits. The form will help track issues like delays and service problems caused by past staffing cuts (affecting many residents).  WLNS

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ingham County health officials confirmed a measles case in a one-year-old girl who traveled out-of-state, marking the first case since 1994—officials urge anyone one year or older to get the MMR vaccine. The department is tracking potential exposure sites from recent events to notify those at risk.  WKAR

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The old Sears property near Frandor Shopping Center will not see new development until FEMA finishes remapping the floodplain—officials expect the new maps by spring. The Gillespie Group plans a $60—$100 million ROECO project that will add retail, dining and entertainment spaces, with leases set to be signed next year.  Lansing State Journal
