  • Hank’s Cuisines opened in a renovated Quality Dairy on 1200 W. Willow St. and now offers soul food, breakfast, burgers and a busy takeout service for local diners. Owners John Douglas and Quantel Mckissic built the restaurant as a neighborhood hub for good food and community ties — serving favorites like crispy fried fish, creative smash burgers and a unique French toast fried chicken sandwich.  Lansing City Pulse

CRIME NEWS

  • A man aged 22 was stabbed and left in critical condition just before 10 a.m. on West Jolly and Wexford roads in south Lansing—police arrested a suspect in connection with the attack.  Lansing State Journal

  • MSU’s play Inching Towards Yeolha is based on the diary of an 18th century Korean philosopher and shows a village caught in sandstorms with hard choices of free will and fate—led by 19 actors including Shelby Parker as Yeon-Ahm. The play runs at the Wharton Center’s Pasant Theatre through Saturday, April 19 and uses strong set, lighting, and sound work—making a clear and thoughtful production.  Lansing City Pulse

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Michigan launched the Ticket to Tuition FAFSA Sweepstakes yesterday to give high school students a chance to win a share of $1,000,000 by filling out their FAFSA for the first time and texting CASH to 855-505-8425 before May 16. Governor Gretchen Whitmer said the prizes include 40 awards of $10,000 and 10 awards of $50,000 that will be placed in educational savings accounts to help lower college costs.  WKAR
  • MSU will begin its spring commencement ceremonies on May 1 for over 10,000 graduates, with influential speakers including Apple's Deirdre O'Brien addressing master’s recipients at 9 a.m., mortgage CEO Mat Ishbia speaking to baccalaureate candidates at 12:30 p.m., and James Spaniolo addressing doctoral candidates at 2:30 p.m. on May 2 at Breslin Student Events Center — the events will be livestreamed online using #SpartanGrad25.  Michigan State University Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bird flu is spreading in Michigan and experts say most people can use backyard bird feeders if they keep them clean and do not mix them with poultry. Officials advise residents to take down feeders and clean them with a bleach solution if they see unusual bird behavior — then leave the feeders down for a few weeks.  Lansing State Journal
  • Health officials urge parents to keep to vaccine schedules after Michigan reported five measles cases this year, including a one-year-old girl in Ingham County who was exposed despite receiving her MMR vaccine a day before symptoms began. Medical experts stress following CDC guidelines for all child vaccines + they advise timely immunization to build full protection + parents should check with healthcare providers for advice.  Lansing State Journal
