- ➤ Flooding from the Looking Glass River has submerged Riverside Park in DeWitt and led some residents to consider an evacuation plan as water levels rise; meteorologists forecast the river will crest at 8 feet by Saturday evening and may take until Monday to recede. FOX 47

- ➤ Keith Urban will headline the Ally Community Concert on Saturday, Aug. 29 at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc during the Ally Challenge, which runs from Aug. 24 to Aug. 30; tickets start at $15 and go on sale today at 10:00 a.m. WJIM AM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ MSU opened its new Student Recreation and Wellness Center on Wednesday, April 15 to offer triple the workout space, a 50-meter pool, indoor-outdoor areas, and multipurpose courts. The older IM West gym will close on April 25 — its pool stays open until replacement is finished. The State News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The National Weather Service confirmed eight tornadoes from storms on April 14 and 15, including an EF-0 near Lansing that touched down near Newburg Road and traveled 1.7 miles, causing structural damage as survey teams verified additional twisters in west and southeast Michigan. - ➤ The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced planned bridge work on Interstates 69, 96 and 496 along with Old U.S. 27 and M-50, prompting lane or ramp closures beginning Monday, April 20 until work finishes by May 22. Lansing State Journal

- ➤ The Michigan Sports Writers released the all-state girls basketball teams on Thursday, Apr. 16 – naming Lilly Williams of Howell as Division 1 Player of the Year and awarding Bernard Loudermill of Muskegon as Coach of the Year. Lansing State Journal
- ➤ The MSU football team will host its Spring Showcase Saturday, April 18 at Spartan Stadium - fans can enter at 10:30 a.m. for a noon kickoff and later meet new head coach Pat Fitzgerald for autographs as free tickets, parking and concessions are available amid rain showers. Lansing State Journal
- ➤ The Big Ten announced a new volleyball tournament that will take place from Nov. 20 to 25 at Fishers Event Center in Fishers, Indiana. Teams such as MSU will challenge for an NCAA bid. The State News
- ➤ East Lansing's Sydney Black and DeWitt's Carly Dennis were named to the Michigan Sports Writers Division 1 all-state girls basketball team on Thursday, April 16 (Black averaged 16.0 points and 6.9 rebounds) and Dennis, the Panthers’ leading scorer (averaging 12.1 points), earned honorable mention. - ➤ Anna Wypych, the 2025 Michigan Miss Basketball winner, joined MSU as the Spartans rebuild their roster after nine departures. The former Butler guard returns home to boost the team for her upcoming freshman season. The State News
