  • East Lansing Downtown Management Board is hosting the After Class Bash on Friday, Apr. 24 at Ann Street Plaza. The free event runs from 6-9 p.m. and features live music from Florence Texas and Boiler Room Band plus free giveaways and yard games.  City of East Lansing

  • Spirit Airlines faces a risk of liquidating this week amid a financial crisis worsened by rising jet fuel costs that may impact flights at DTW in Romulus. Travelers who booked with credit cards might be eligible for refunds and should review their flight details.  Lansing State Journal
  • Flooding has repeatedly hit businesses on Kalamazoo and Homer Streets, causing road closures and lost revenue as water levels remain high. Drain Commissioner Patrick Lindemann warned that those in the floodway may need to invest in levees or relocate, while local leaders call for revised flood management.  FOX 47

  • Recordings and texts show that student organizer Saba Saed lost trust in MSU trustees Denno + Vassar after board meetings where the trustees dismissed student concerns and minimized advocacy efforts. The evidence raised questions over their commitment to support student voices as controversy over their actions grew.  The State News
  • Conservative activist Shane Winnings spoke at MSU’s Wells Hall on Thursday night during his America Needs Godly Men tour (he discussed Christian values and male-led families) with the event hosted by the Turning Point USA chapter.  The State News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan DNR updated its Mi-Morels map on Friday, Apr. 17 to show morel mushroom spots in burned areas, including a 30.4-acre wildfire near Dansville (Ingham County). Residents will search for morels in May and attend festivals celebrating the season.  Lansing State Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • UM Health-Sparrow honored 22-year-old Tyler Coffey on Friday at its Lansing facility in a ceremony that added his name to a memorial wall of organ donors. His decision to donate his heart, kidneys and liver saved four lives.  Stacks 92.1

  • MSU's women's basketball star Jalyn Brown signed a training camp contract with the Seattle Storm on Wed, Apr. 17, joining Grace VanSlooten and four other athletes; training camp begins Apr. 19 and the regular season starts May 8.  Lansing State Journal
