COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 9,000 runners, walkers, and rollers are set to take part in the Izzo Run/Walk/Roll event on Sunday, Apr. 26 at Michigan State University’s campus. The event, founded by coach Tom Izzo and his wife Lupe, will support local charities and has made a $1.55 million impact.  Lansing State Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two Lansing restaurants, Flap Jack Shack and Jersey Giant, were damaged Monday morning when a kitchen fire near Frandor spread quickly before firefighters contained it; no injuries were reported and investigations continue to determine the cause.  WJIM AM
  • Early Monday morning, a fire in the kitchen of Flap Jack Shack at 3000 E. Grand River Ave near Frandor Shopping Center forced the breakfast spot and adjacent Jersey Giant Subs to close — a condemnation notice and fire marshal order barred entry — with no reported injuries.  Lansing State Journal

  • Smoothie King opened at 3106 E Saginaw Street on April 11, adding to the growing restaurant boom in the Frandor area. The fast-casual eatery offers a range of smoothies and quick bites for locals.  WJIM AM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pure Michigan has launched a $6.4 million tourism campaign to inspire travelers and highlight spring and summer adventures across the state until July 31 + the campaign aims to boost tourism amid high gas prices.  Stacks 92.1

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices dropped 15 cents from last week, with the state average for regular unleaded now at $3.83 per gallon, AAA said. Drivers in Lansing may benefit from lower fuel costs though market volatility means prices could change quickly.  FOX 47

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MSU Student Horticulture Association held a spring plant sale on campus Sunday as part of the 14th annual Science Festival, which runs through Apr. 30. Proceeds will support student scholarships and trips to industry events.  FOX 47
  • MSU’s Astrobiology Club offered a creative look at space through a rock painting event (with a green alien design) that featured a guest lecture on biosignatures on Mars. The club held a Space Movie and Study Night on April 20th to engage students in hands-on astrobiology learning.  The State News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • More than 50 local volunteers gathered on Sunday at Fenner Nature Center for the annual Earth Day Extravaganza, where they removed invasive plants, picked up litter, and maintained trails to protect Michigan's natural habitats.  FOX 47
  • Meridian Township will hold its annual Spring Recycling Day on Saturday, April 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Okemos (between Marketplace on the Green and High Caliber Karting and Entertainment) as mid-Michigan residents drop off scrap metals, bikes, and appliances.  Stacks 92.1

SPORTS NEWS

  • MSU men's tennis clinched the Big Ten regular-season title by rallying past Purdue this past weekend, while the women ended their season with a tough matchup against Michigan. The men's historic win marked a season of strong team effort, bringing a title not seen in nearly 59 years.  The State News
  • On April 20, 2026, Okemos and Laingsburg baseball teams swept their opponents with strong pitching from Sebastian Blair and hitting by Harper Strouse. Other local teams in Holt, Portland St. Patrick, and Owosso also earned wins (showing a promising prep season).  Lansing State Journal
