- ➤ Today, Lansing City Council will hold a Committee of the Whole meeting tonight to review the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 budget with departments including the City Clerk, Mayor, Economic Development Corporation, Fire Department and Parks and Recreation. State Representative Wortz will host office hours at the Burnside Center in Coldwater from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. while Mayor Schor and Mayor Brookover will host the 17th annual Ramadan Unity Dinner at the Henry Center from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.—with all proceeds supporting the Greater Lansing Food Bank. - ➤ On February 8th, 1951, pizza was first served in Lansing at Falsetta’s Casa Nova restaurant—local accounts recall its heavy, loaded toppings that some found unusual at first. - ➤ Michigan State is delaying G.I. Bill payments for about 1,000 veteran students because only two officials handle the funds—this is far below the recommended ratio of one for every 125 students. - ➤ State lawmakers have proposed a constitutional amendment that would require voters to show proof of U.S. citizenship when registering and tighten voter ID rules—if it collects 446,198 signatures by 2026—while supporters say this will keep elections secure.
