COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At Delta Township, children of Michigan Farm Bureau employees packed over 1,000 supper packs on Thursday (National Take Your Kid to Work Day) to help students facing food insecurity statewide.  FOX 47
  • After a developer canceled plans for a 13-story $90 million housing project downtown, local business owners are eyeing future projects that preserve the area’s charm + support local spaces. They remain optimistic as discussions continue over what comes next.  FOX 47
  • Recycle Rama — Lansing's largest recycling event — will be held Saturday, Apr. 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 5303 S. Cedar Street, where free recycling is offered for most items while TV monitors cost $20 and old appliances may earn a local utility rebate.  WKAR

CRIME NEWS

  • Ingham County Animal Control removed 26 cats, one dog, and two more cats from a Lansing home on Wednesday and Thursday due to unsanitary conditions, and felony charges are being pursued against the homeowner while some animals await adoption.  WKAR

  • Wavelength, a weekly electronic music series at Green Door, will host a compilation release party with local and regional DJs on Wednesday, April 29. Today, folk singer Lucy Kaplansky performs at UrbanBeat in Old Town at 7:30 p.m., jointly presented by Ten Pound Fiddle and UrbanBeat.  Lansing State Journal

  • East Lansing High School senior Maggie Crowe excels in sports and academics as she pursues a spot at West Point this fall. She leads her teams (gymnastics, cheer, lacrosse, and swimming) with a 3.9 GPA and strong leadership.  WKAR

  • The DNR unveiled its interactive map (available on the Hunt Fish app) that uses color to show fishing rules ahead of tomorrow's trout, walleye, and pike openers at local waters statewide.  Lansing State Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Michigan’s tick season is underway and local experts say residents should protect themselves by dressing appropriately and using repellent (and checking themselves and pets) when outdoors. American dog ticks and blacklegged ticks make up most of the state's ticks and can spread Lyme disease.  Lansing State Journal

  • On April 22, Lansing Catholic baseball swept DeWitt in two nonleague games — Elijah Jungwirth hit a home run and earned four RBI as his team secured both wins.  Lansing State Journal
  • Coach Bickerstaff's halftime talk fueled a turnaround as the Pistons overcame early struggles against the Magic on Thursday, Apr. 22, using strong teamwork and defense to dominate the second half.  WJIM AM
  • MSU Men's Tennis Head Coach Harry Jadun was named Big Ten Coach of the Year after leading his team to its first conference title since 1967 — a turnaround following an early slow start. He now prepares for postseason play at the Big Ten Tournament in California.  The State News
