CRIME NEWS

  • A judge ruled on May 1 that there is enough evidence for David Gaines Jr. to stand trial for involuntary manslaughter in the death of Caleb Shermoe after the Fowlerville man fell backwards and hit his head following a punch outside a restaurant in East Lansing in January—Gaines remains free on bond as the case moves to Ingham County Circuit Court.  Lansing State Journal
  • Former Lansing Police Department Lieutenant Ryan Wilcox, who maintained a lawn mowing business on city time, was sentenced to 10 months probation—ordered to pay $18,500 in restitution and complete 80 hours of community service by Oct. 31—as an internal investigation continues into how his actions went unreported.  Lansing State Journal
  • Lansing police are searching for 16-year-old Katalina Green who was reported missing after she was last seen on April 18 near the 1100 block of North High Street and may be in Dearborn Heights—she was wearing a black and red hoodie, a grey Batman shirt and grey sweatpants.  Lansing State Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of East Lansing is urging residents to join No Mow May this May to let wildflowers grow and help pollinators needed for most food crops — a move meant to support our ecosystem.
