- ➤ Ferguson Park in Okemos offers nature walks, fishing, and kayaking along the Red Cedar River with a canoe launch, playground, and picnic area. The park is next to the Sumbal Preserve — a rugged trail through dense forests and wetlands where rare plants and local wildlife can be seen. Lansing State Journal
- ➤ Everett High School's gymnasium will host a Celebration of Life memorial for longtime basketball coach Johnny Jones on May 10 from noon to 3:00 p.m. Jones led the school teams to state championships in the early 2000s and passed away earlier this week at age 75. Stacks 92.1

- ➤ The 62nd Annual East Lansing Art Festival will be held May 17 and 18 downtown with booths set up on M.A.C. Avenue and displays along Albert Avenue and Ann Street Plaza. - ➤ Erica Wehrwein, a Michigan State University professor, was given the President’s Distinguished Teaching Award on March 26 when university leaders visited her class. - ➤ Community members are invited to a Town Hall on May 7 at 6 p.m. in the Executive Conference Room at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road + to ask questions about the preliminary FY2026 budget, tax rate and proposed deficit reduction plan. City Council will hold public hearings on the budget on May 13 + vote on it on May 27. City of East Lansing

- ➤ The former Hack's Key Shop building in downtown was demolished on April 28 — its site will be used for a parking structure in the New Vision skyscraper project across Grand Avenue, with caisson installation beginning within a month. Lansing State Journal
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Mason senior Tori Lator helped the Bulldogs win their home invitational on April 25 by winning the 200 and high jump and running on the 400 and 800 relays. She set the 100 school record last May and now aims to break the 200 record and qualify for state events at regionals. Lansing State Journal
- ➤ Michigan State fired athletic director Alan Haller on Thursday, which triggered a clause in coach Jonathan Smith’s contract that cuts his buyout in half if he takes another job. Under the new terms, if another school hires him before Dec. 1, he will owe MSU $3 million, with lower penalties for later departures as outlined in his contract. Lansing State Journal
