  • Neighbors gathered Saturday at MSU’s Baker Woodlot for a spring ephemeral walk + organizers led a guided tour of early blooms and advised waiting to plant annuals after cold nights; they plan more nature events in the coming months.  FOX 47

CULTURE NEWS

  • MSU students held Studio 450's end-of-year fashion show on April 30 at the Horticulture Gardens from 7 to 10 p.m., featuring student-designed outfits and a model casting process that gave budding designers real-world experience.  The State News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MSU held its spring commencement this weekend as thousands of graduates received their diplomas and celebrated new beginnings + lasting friendships. Many praised the campus life that prepared them for future careers.  FOX 47

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MDOT will close two southbound lanes on U.S. 127 from today until Friday, May 8 for epoxy overlay work between Forest and Jolly roads. The work follows last year's rebuild — drivers should plan for slower travel between I-96 and I-496.  Lansing State Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Michigan residents have begun picking morel mushrooms this spring, and the DNR warns that false morels can be deadly if not correctly identified (they lack a hollow cap attached to the stalk) as shown by the new Mi-Morels map available online from the agency.  Lansing State Journal

  • Tom Izzo, Michigan State's longtime coach, weighed in on plans to expand March Madness from 68 to 76 teams as college rules change.   • Over the weekend, prep teams Laingsburg, Lansing Catholic and Charlotte won key softball and baseball tournaments in Greater Lansing.
