COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This weekend, Lansing celebrates 517 Day with Restaurant Week (May 9 to 17), a Lansing Lugnuts game featuring an Olive Burger special, and events downtown including a tattoo flash and art festival in East Lansing.  WJIM AM

CULTURE NEWS

  • This summer, major female artists are set to light up Michigan, with Lainey Wilson (performing at Ford Field in Detroit on August 8) among others. The lineup spans country, pop, and rock genres, offering diverse shows statewide.  WJIM AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan regulators are expected to vote today on a one buck rule that would limit hunters to one antlered deer and shift focus to doe tags, aiming to balance the state's deer herd and improve management. Advocates say the change corrects a tradition from a law passed in 1921.  Bridge Michigan
  • Two south Lansing encampments were nearly cleared after no trespassing orders were enforced on church-owned properties, displacing unhoused residents following reports of illegal burning. Community advocates call for better support to help those affected.  FOX 47

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Tuesday, May 12, 600 Lansing-area students gathered at the Capitol lawn as the Michigan Moves Coalition launched its statewide Physical Activity Plan to boost movement in schools and communities. The event featured field day activities and a press conference on the Capitol steps.  FOX 47

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • AAA expects over 1.3 million Michiganders to travel 50+ miles from home this Memorial Day weekend. Drivers can ease heavy traffic on May 21 and May 22 from 3 to 6 p.m. by leaving after 9 p.m. on May 21 + before 11 a.m. on May 22.  Lansing State Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • MSU athletics announced on Tuesday morning that women's soccer head coach Jeff Hosler agreed to a five-year contract extension that will keep him at the helm until 2030. Hosler has led the team to Big Ten championships and deep playoff runs.  The State News
  • MSU hockey landed elite prospect Ethan Belchetz, a 6-5 (227 lb) power forward from the Windsor Spitfires, who was projected to be among the top 15 picks in the upcoming NHL draft and is expected to be healthy for the October season opener.  Lansing State Journal
  • Ten teams, including CAAC Blue champion Okemos and CAAC Red co-leaders Mason and Williamston, will compete in the Dean Shippey Capital Diamond Classic on Monday, May 18 at Michigan State's McLane Stadium.   • The Michigan State men's club soccer team is working to reclaim its winning legacy after qualifying for Nationals with a 16-0 run before a narrow loss. The team, which won its regional tournament for the first time since 2016, is building chemistry for future events.  WKAR
  • On May 12, Mason and Williamston claimed shares of the CAAC Red baseball title as standout players earned sweep wins, and other local prep teams secured victories in softball, lacrosse, and golf — fueling a strong local sports season.  Lansing State Journal
  • Head coach Adam Nightingale announced Friday that Andy Contois will join Michigan State hockey as an assistant coach for the 2026-27 season in East Lansing. The Marquette native, who spent two seasons at Northern Michigan, brings his USHL experience amid recent staffing losses.  The State News
  • Michigan State basketball released part of its Big Ten schedule for the upcoming season on May 12. The Spartans will play rivals including Michigan at Breslin Center and on the road, with full dates in September and the Final Four at Ford Field (April 3 to 5, 2027).  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State hockey signed left winger Ethan Belchetz, a projected first round NHL draft pick, for the 2026–27 season. The Spartans also added defenseman Chase Reid, forwards Nikita Klepov and Mason West, and goaltenders Ravensbergen, Salajko and Sigurdson to boost their roster.  The State News
