  • Lansing celebrates 517 Day this weekend with diverse events scheduled on May 16 and May 17. The plan includes a Lugnuts game at Jackson Field, an MSU plant sale at 1066 Bogue St., a Centennial Classic golf scramble at Groesbeck, and other festivals + dining specials.  Lansing City Pulse

  • Finger Lickin’ Chicken & Fish opened at the Lansing Shuffle a month ago after owner Cedric Bradley returned from Metro Detroit, adding new menu items and planning to expand to Novi soon. Locals now also have a new Chick-fil-A at 6430 S. Cedar St.  Lansing City Pulse
  • Construction crews are working inside the former Joann Fabrics space at Frandor Shopping Center as Total Wine & More confirms it will open a new Lansing store later this year; more details on the location and schedule will be shared soon.  WKAR

  • Artist Jane Rosemont returned to Lansing last week for a reception at the Nelson Gallery where she showcased her first-ever collage exhibition 'Relatives You Didn’t Know You Had' and reconnected with local art lovers as she prepared for future projects.  Lansing City Pulse

  • Delta Township has named Eric Arnold as its new Assistant Fire Chief; he brings over 25 years of fire service experience from Dearborn and will lead department operations to serve the community. Arnold holds degrees from Grand Valley State University + Eastern Michigan University.  Stacks 92.1

HEALTH NEWS

  • UM Health-Sparrow began providing wearable panic buttons to off-site hospice and home care workers through the Canopy Go system on May 13 (expanding a program that initially served high-risk on-site staff) to improve team safety in unpredictable settings.  Lansing State Journal

  • On May 13, the Michigan State women's golf team qualified for the NCAA Championship by winning a three team playoff at the Chapel Hill regional, finishing tied for fourth with Virginia and N.C. State, and they will now compete with 30 teams in Carlsbad from May 22 to 27.  Lansing State Journal
  • MSU hockey players Ryker Lee and Isaac Howard and former forward Porter Martone will compete at the 2026 IIHF Men's World Championships in Zurich (May 15-31). Lee and Howard join Team USA while Martone represents Team Canada.  The State News
