- ➤ After a January pipe burst forced cancellation of over 40 events, the historic Grand Ledge Opera House reopened and hosted a Nashville Roots performance by Singers on the Grand—who helped fund renovations in the 1990s—and longtime employee Nancy Harvey is set to retire after 17 years, marking a new chapter for the venue. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ BWL restored power to over 85% of customers after Thursday’s storms, but more than 2,000 Lansing-area customers remained without power as of May 18th. Utility crews worked around the clock to repair 188 downed wires, 60 broken poles and 80 tree-related service requests — and BWL aimed to restore 90% of service by the end of May 18th. - ➤ Michigan State baseball advanced to the Big Ten tournament after a game-winning hit in their regular-season finale on May 18 at McLane Stadium with the bases loaded driving the win. - ➤ Michigan State basketball added a new point guard when former Miami transfer Divine Ugochukwu pledged his commitment on May 18 via Instagram — he is from Sugar Land, Texas and has three years of eligibility to boost the Spartans’ backcourt alongside returning starter Jeremy Fears Jr. This addition is MSU’s third offseason transfer after losing key guards and comes as head coach Tom Izzo seeks to strengthen the team for the upcoming season.
