  • Today in East Lansing, city officials host an open house from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Hannah Community Center — residents can voice concerns about local plans — while a Social Security rally at 3:00 p.m. at the Social Security Administration Building protests potential cuts and a wreath laying ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Medal of Honor Memorial honors veterans ahead of Memorial Day.  FOX 47

  • MSU named Laura Lee McIntyre as Provost and Executive VP for Academic Affairs after a nationwide search that began in October 2024—her appointment awaits Board approval on June 13—and she will begin her duties on Aug. 4.  The State News

  • Ingham County Clerk Barb Byram announced her run for Secretary of State today, having served as clerk since 2013 and in the state house from 2007 to 2012 + Deputy Secretary of State Aghogho Edevbie also joined the race as current Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is running for governor in 2026.  FOX 47
  • State legislators introduced bipartisan bills to expand AMBER alert criteria — allowing law enforcement to issue alerts for missing children if they are believed to be in danger or have special needs and to use social media for quicker broadcasts. The proposals, which come after a 2024 case involving six-year-old Rowan Morey, have been referred to the Committee on Families and Veterans for review.  WLNS

  • Health care professionals warn that Michigan has only 5 psychiatric beds per 100,000 people and 155 patients wait daily in emergency departments for mental health care—UM Health Sparrow has begun demolishing a former high school to convert it into a facility with 120 beds to help address the shortage.  FOX 47
