BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bob's Big Boy on South Pennsylvania Avenue has kept its 'Coming Soon' sign for over two years and construction remains in progress while hiring is listed online — local neighbors speculate that financial or personal issues may be delaying the opening.  WJIM AM

CRIME NEWS

  • The FBI warned Michigan residents against responding to scam messages—such as bogus emails and AI-generated voice calls—that claim to be from U.S. officials and advised deleting and reporting them to the Internet Crime Complaint Center.  WJIM AM
  • On April 23, 2015, Mathew Straub called his mother from his Lansing home at 616 Fenton Street to say he saw unknown men outside and was fatally shot 22 minutes later—his murder remains unsolved as authorities believe he was targeted for legally growing marijuana and ask anyone with tips to help out.  WJIM AM

CULTURE NEWS

  • On a day that felt like mid-summer, hundreds gathered for the 46th annual Cristo Rey Fiesta in Lansing to enjoy music, food and games while celebrating Hispanic culture. Organizers said the festival will continue tomorrow at 11 a.m. — a ceremony to honor military members will follow in the afternoon.  FOX 47

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • House Oversight Committee Chair Jay DeBoyer accused Attorney General Dana Nessel of not providing all requested documents on the Flint water crisis after a March request as her flash drive omitted key records; Nessel said the production was extensive and that extra time was needed for some items. The dispute may escalate if both offices do not reach an agreement—lawmakers noted.  Michigan Public Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Warmer weather may bring swimmer's itch to Michigan swimmers this Memorial Day weekend as snail parasites in contaminated water cause a rash with tingling, burning, and small blisters. Residents should check the EGLE map+ use home remedies for relief since the rash usually clears on its own within a week.  Lansing State Journal
  • Wells Enterprises has recalled 22 ice cream and frozen yogurt products including popular flavors like Rocky Road because plastic bits may be in them—customers should discard any affected items or return them for a full refund. The products have best-by dates from March to October and are classified as a Class II recall with no injuries reported.  WJIM AM
  • The FDA has recalled cucumbers grown by Bedner Growers and distributed by Fresh Start Produce INC that were sold from April 29th to May 14th, after at least two dozen people in multiple states got sick from possible salmonella contamination. Michigan shoppers should throw away any cucumbers bought during that time to avoid health risks — the recall is still in effect even though no cases have been confirmed here.  WJIM AM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan State hockey added Swedish forward Eric Nilson (a 6-foot, 154-pound center ranked seventh among European skaters) on Friday to boost its high-powered offense for the 2025–26 season. He helped Sweden win a silver medal at the U-18 World Junior Championships, and his signing comes as the team also added Travis Shoudy and received a commitment from OHL forward Anthony Romani.  Lansing State Journal
