On Monday, May 25, downtown Bath hosted its annual Memorial Day parade as local residents honored veterans with patriotic displays.

The event united families, community members and veterans to celebrate a cherished local tradition.

Gov. Whitmer ordered Michigan and U.S. flags (from sunrise until noon on Monday, May 25) to be lowered at the State Capitol Complex and on public buildings to honor Memorial Day, and a National Moment of Remembrance invited everyone to pause at 3 p.m. local time.

Most major grocers opened on Memorial Day (May 25) to help families get last-minute food for cookouts in Michigan, though Costco closed and Aldi had reduced hours while Sam's Club and other chains operated on varying schedules.

High school athletes from DeWitt, Grand Ledge and Haslett are in the running for LSJ athlete of the week as voters consider standout performances in track, baseball and golf.

Voting remains open until noon Wednesday, May 27.

The LSJ revealed high school athlete nominees including Lansing Catholic’s Avery Dunneback, East Lansing’s Eliana Rojas and Olivet’s Celina Sinclair (each excelling in their sport) with votes open until noon Wednesday, May 27 to pick the athlete of the week.

The schedule and results for Greater Lansing high school girls soccer in the MHSAA district tournament are out, showing wins from May 20 and 21 and matchups set for today with final games on May 28 to May 30.
