COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Area farmers markets in 2025 offer many choices for shoppers, with year-round events and seasonal schedules running through October. The schedule highlights include the Allen Farmers Market operating Wednesdays from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at 1629 E. Kalamazoo St. in Lansing — along with other markets such as the Farmers Market at the Capitol on select dates.  Lansing City Pulse
  • The East Lansing Family Aquatic Center at 6400 Abbot Road will open on May 31 for the summer season and operate daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Sept 1, weather permitting. It will close from Aug 25 to Aug 28—due to local school schedules and staffing shortages.  City of East Lansing

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rebecca Titus, owner and CSA manager of Titus Farms in Leslie, has sold vegetables, cut flowers and eggs at local farmers markets since she began farming as a child and started a community-supported agriculture program in 2005 to help cover costs between harvests. The farm uses sustainable methods with passive solar hoop houses and steady CSA memberships of about 250 in summer and 100 in winter while her parents continue to assist on the farm.  Lansing City Pulse
  • Nigerian-born chef Sean Sipeolu opened his new downtown restaurant, Jollof Afro-Caribbean Lounge, after a ribbon cutting last week—he said the lounge serves dishes like jollof rice with a mix of American and Caribbean cocktails and will host DJs and live jazz on weekends.  Lansing City Pulse

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MSU Libraries Special Collections and Archives will launch an exhibit on the Vietnam War’s impact on campus life at the main library on June 5. The exhibit shows documents, photos, and letters that explain how MSU worked with South Vietnam—and details the era’s protest culture while inviting former students to share scrapbooks to complete the story.  Lansing City Pulse
  • Michigan State University was named one of the top 40 U.S. institutions by the National Academy of Inventors for granting utility patents, rising from 49 to 36 this year with 60 patents granted.   • Michigan lawmakers are considering two bills that would let police use an oral drug test during traffic stops—tests that might lead to handcuffing a driver even if the result does not prove impairment. Critics like the ACLU and legal experts warn that the new testing method could misidentify cannabis use and infringe on individual rights as the measures head toward a vote.  Lansing City Pulse
