EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Mason school board stopped its memorial policy on Saturday morning so that memorials for two students killed in a 2023 car crash can go ahead and said it will review the policy later—families of the students were invited to attend today's graduation ceremony.  WLNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Eaton County officials said the budget cuts will reduce the Barry Eaton District Health Department by 25 percent this fall and lower community mental health services by 30 percent, which will force neighbors to seek new help. County leaders are exploring options to balance the budget after recent tax measures failed — they expect more departments to be affected.  FOX 47

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hormel will recall about 256,000 lbs of Dinty Moore Beef Stew on May 28th, 2026 after wood fragments were found in 20 oz cans with lot T02045—consumers are urged to return or discard affected cans.  WJIM AM
  • Coastal Companies has recalled 17 salad and salsa products due to a possible salmonella risk—FDA advises consumers to discard or return any affected items with no illnesses reported.  WJIM AM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan State forward Isaac Howard captured USA Hockey’s Jim Johannson College Player of the Year award after scoring 26 goals and 52 points in 37 games this season — he also helped Team USA win gold at the IIHF Men's World Championships in Stockholm. He will be honored in Denver on June 6.  WJIM AM
  • Fowler claimed a Division 4 district title on May 30 by beating Breckenridge 8 to 0—Selena Stump pitched a complete game two-hitter and the team secured a 15 to 0 win with a no-hitter by Anna Andros. Dansville won its Division 4 title with a 6 to 3 win over Webberville—Laci Neal recorded three hits including a home run.  Lansing State Journal
  • Bella Latuszek hit a walk-off base hit on May 31 to give Laingsburg a 5-4 win over Lansing Catholic in the Division 3 district final. The junior kept her cool with two outs and runners on second and third to secure the win and avenge last year’s loss.  Lansing State Journal
