  • Jon Anthony Florist, a family-run favorite that has served Lansing since 1941, will close its Michigan Avenue location on June 14th. The shop is holding a closing sale with gift items at 75% off + plants at 50% off as owner Patricia Holliday and her sister wrap up its final chapter.  WJIM AM

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Westbound I-96 near Fowlerville was temporarily closed after a semi-truck hit a communication line at 11:46 p.m. on June 7—utility companies were dispatched and officials urged drivers to take alternate routes.  WLNS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new study finds Michigan drivers are struggling with car loans—Michigan ranks 36th in auto loan delinquencies between Q3 and Q4—and Lansing borrowers face monthly payments over $600 on new car loans averaging about $35,000.  WJIM AM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Yesterday, Bella Latuszek delivered a walk off hit in the bottom of the 11th inning to give Laingsburg a win by a score of 5 to 4 over Jackson Lumen Christi at Leslie High School and set the stage for a quarterfinal game against Grass Lake at 4 p.m. on June 10+ Grand Ledge won 4 to 3 over Saginaw Heritage while Plymouth Christian also advanced.  Lansing State Journal
  • Wyatt Ball hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning to give the Mason Bulldogs a 3-2 win over Chelsea in the Division 2 quarterfinals on June 7, advancing his team to the next round.  Lansing State Journal
  • Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery hosted a youth football camp at Lansing Sexton High School where kids aged 6 to 16 learned professional football skills — he shared his personal experience to inspire their play.  WJIM AM
  • Michigan State athletic director J Batt sent a letter on Saturday, June 7 explaining that a federal settlement now lets MSU share about $20.5 million in revenue with student-athletes starting July 1. The incoming director, who begins his duties the week of June 15, said the change creates new opportunities and challenges for the athletic department.  Lansing State Journal
