- ➤ A homeless encampment caught fire in Lansing, drawing attention to issues that left 2,371 residents unhoused in 2023 and raised calls for better mental health support. Randy Barton of City Rescue Mission said a shelter expansion on Kalamazoo St.—which will double spaces for men and women and expand the overnight drop-in center—will finish in the next two to three weeks, with some men moving in this summer and women in the fall.
