  • Willie Davis will be honored as the grand marshal in Lansing's Juneteenth parade for his 50 years of educational service—he will turn 80 in October and has witnessed many key moments in community history.  FOX 47

CRIME NEWS

  • Michigan State Police is asking the public to help find endangered 14 year old Styla Denton from Eaton County who left home on June 15 without her cell phone—if you have information, call the MSP Operations Center at 517—241—8000 and reference complaint 11—2549—25.  WLNS

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new streaming service—Sonic Coast—features music from Michigan artists as well as renowned acts, and founder Brian Maloney launched it after retiring from commercial radio. The free app has reached about 6,000 downloads in its first 18 months and shares live show details to help local bands be discovered.  WKAR
  • Today, Michigan will see the longest day of the year when the summer solstice occurs at 10:42 p.m., offering between 15 and 16 hours of daylight across the state. A Finnish Juhannus celebration in Hancock will join other global events (including bonfires and live music) as communities welcome the start of summer.  Lansing State Journal
  • Communities across Greater Lansing are marking Juneteenth this weekend with events scheduled through June22. A festival runs at St. Joseph Park today and Saturday, Meridian Township hosts its event today from 3-7 p.m.—and Jackson plans a celebration for Saturday.  WKAR

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Some Michigan drivers may receive up to $758 for pothole damage repairs through the Pothole Payback contest run by the Michigan Infrastructure & Transportation Association—an industry group representing more than 500 companies—and the contest lasts through the end of June. Drivers may also file damage claims on state roads, though most claims over $1,000 are denied.  WKAR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four graduating high school seniors have received $5,000 scholarships from LAFCU and $500 donations to charities of their choice—Aubree Moore, Kelcie Pung, Kennedy Mullens and Nolan Sanders won the contest that asked how new courses could improve student experience for Michigan seniors.  Lansing State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office announced it will open a no-kill animal shelter by July 1—if delays occur, the opening may shift to early July; the shelter is the first county-run facility since 2012 and benefits from local contractors volunteering to cut labor costs.  WLNS
  • In Michigan, Juneteenth was observed on June 19 with federal, state and local government offices closed and many banks and post offices not offering normal services. Local businesses continued operations while delivery services, including same-day options, maintained package distribution.  Lansing State Journal
  • Governor Whitmer joined Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks and House Speaker Matt Hall online while in Australia to discuss the K-12 fiscal year 2026 budget. Lawmakers remain hopeful they will pass a school funding agreement by the July 1 deadline after a non-negotiated 2019 budget and recent fund reallocation by Whitmer—actions that upset some legislators.  Stacks 92.1
