COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ledge Craft Lane in Grand Ledge launched a fundraiser after its boiler malfunctioned in April and flooded the basement, putting heated art classes at risk since they bring in over half of its income—efforts include selling bamboo pens for donations over $5 and planning more events with its upcoming 50th anniversary to raise the over $20,000 needed for repairs before winter.  FOX 47

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Meijer stores across the Midwest are recalling Frederik’s Meijer Dark Chocolate Almonds – the chocolates may contain unlabeled dark chocolate‑coated cashews that pose an allergy risk. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A recent transformation at Ranney Park behind Frandor has created a new natural oasis with a 160-foot water quality wall—designed by engineering firm Wade Trim—that manages stormwater while supporting local wildlife. Locals now enjoy improved trails, boardwalks, and a sledding hill on Mt. Frandor as part of the park’s ongoing revitalization.  WJIM AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Sen. Sarah Anthony introduced the Tenant Empowerment Package that would grant tenants more rights by setting strict repair deadlines—landlords must resolve head hazards in 48 hours, pests in 72 hours, and general issues in 7 days—and require a 90-day notice before rent hikes. The four-bill package passed the Senate Housing and Human Services Committee in early June and is headed to a full Senate vote, while some landlord groups warn it may increase housing costs.  WLNS
