ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Linda Gonzales fell and broke her wrist after tripping on a mismatched sidewalk slab raised 3 inches on Jolly Road in south Lansing—City Council President Ryan Kost said the current repair budget is far below the roughly $12 million needed to fix dangerous sidewalks for pedestrians.  Lansing City Pulse

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local artists Victoria Taava Ericks and Maricela Tapia will paint 17 murals on drain grates across Mid-Michigan as part of Artstorm 2025 to highlight environmental messages. The project—funded by the Michigan Economic Development Corp and managed by the Arts Council of Greater Lansing—will be completed by August.  Lansing City Pulse
  • Pure Options will set up a cannabis friendly space in the Sir Pizza parking lot in Old Town for Lansing Pride festivities Saturday to offer a safe area for relaxing, socializing and responsible consumption. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan law allows people to set off consumer-grade fireworks on private property from 11 a.m. until 11:45 p.m. from June 29 to July 4. Fireworks cannot be set off on public property such as schools, churches and sidewalks + violators may be fined up to $500.  Lansing State Journal
  • State Rep. Mike McFall introduced House Bill 4686 today in Lansing—aimed at decriminalizing psilocybin for people with PTSD—and held a press conference with veteran Michael G. Smith Jr. who said the measure could ease legal barriers for veterans seeking treatment.  WLNS
  • On June 25, black lawmakers and the Michigan NAACP voiced support for MSP Col. James Grady, saying he is held to an unfair standard because of race—claiming efforts to remove him are racially motivated. Unions representing troopers and command officers have voted no confidence in Grady and Lt. Col. Aimee Brimacombe amid concerns over promotion practices and leadership as a House Oversight Committee investigation continues.  Lansing State Journal

  • Trucking owners Yasmin Lopez and Juan Jose Alejandrez bought the old Elks lodge for its acre of empty space when zoning rules stopped them from parking trucks there.
