  • Across Michigan, community events began on June 27 and will continue through 29 (June 27 to 29) and include free festivals, concerts and sports; Lansing residents can attend local gatherings like the ReFashion Upcycle Drop-In and Lansing Pride in Old Town.  Michigan Public Radio
  • Local businesses in Old Town are getting ready for the Lansing Pride Festival today by hanging pride flags and displaying pride merchandise. Some owners say the festival — starting at 1 p.m. and ending at 10 p.m. — will bring in thousands of visitors and boost local business, with a new cannabis lounge option set to open this year.  WKAR

CRIME NEWS

  • A 60-year-old man from Ingham County was arrested Thursday evening for his 9th OWI offense after witnesses said his vehicle went on sidewalks and into oncoming traffic—police later caught him near N. Aurelius Road.  FOX 47
  • Michigan State Police are investigating a security breach at the Capitol after a weapons detection alert was missed during a visitor screening involving musician Ted Nugent — officials said the security system worked as intended but a trooper did not see the alert until after Nugent left.  FOX 47

CULTURE NEWS

  • Greater Lansing has about 80 sites on the National Register that include barns, bridges, homes and historic districts. Todd Walsh from Michigan’s Historic Preservation Office said the list shows sites over 50 years old—helping to preserve our local history.  Lansing State Journal
  • A series of photos shows over 80 historic spots in Lansing on the National Register of Historic Places, featuring landmarks such as the Turner-Dodge House, Eaton County Courthouse, and Marshall Street Armory (renovated for local groups) that capture the city’s past (ranging from the 1900s to recent years).  Lansing State Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A study by Wolf River Electric using data from 2019 to 2023 finds Michigan is the state most at risk for summer power outages in 2025—residents could face widespread blackouts during storms. The analysis measured both major outages and total hours without power to rank states by risk.  WJIM AM
