ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A single vehicle crash in Shiawassee County killed one 14-year-old and injured a 15-year-old and another 14-year-old on Reed and Pittsburg Road in Vernon Township last Friday shortly before 1 p.m.—the crash happened when a side-by-side off-road vehicle rolled after leaving the road.  WLNS

CRIME NEWS

  • Police are investigating the fifth weekend shooting in Lansing—on Sunday, July 20 a 50-year-old man was shot on Turner Road and taken to the hospital in stable condition.  Lansing State Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers at Henry Ford + MSU have received a $3M NIH grant to study immune-targeted therapies for HPV-positive head and neck cancers. The study will explore how the virus helps cancer cells hide from the immune system and aims to develop treatments with fewer side effects.  Michigan State University Today

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A $9.6 million redevelopment project was proposed to transform the site of the former Pleasant Grove Elementary School in southwest Lansing—a site once attended by Malcolm X. The plan will add 30 apartments, 5,800 square feet of commercial space, and a way for locals to invest as little as $50 while it seeks $3.8 million in brownfield tax funding over 30 years.  WKAR
