- ➤ Crown Grill opened mid-July at 902 E Cesar E Chavez Ave and locals are praising its menu featuring Mediterranean dishes, burgers, and chicken tenders — the restaurant is set in the former VEG-N site and is quickly becoming a favorite dining spot in Lansing. WJIM AM
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ WKAR’s new Community Classical program lets listeners pick an hour-long playlist of their favorite classical music and join hosts on air every Friday at 3 p.m.—the show starts this week with WKAR staff and will include studio visits at the MSU Communication Arts and Sciences Building. WKAR
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bright murals are being painted around storm drains this summer to educate locals about water pollution. The ArtStorm 2025 project—managed by MSU and WKAR—will finish 17 murals by next month. WKAR
- ➤ A recent census showed that the Kirtland’s warbler population dropped by nearly 700 breeding pairs from earlier counts due to fewer young jack pine trees available as nesting habitat—Michigan officials said the loss threatens the species’ recovery. State experts plan to cut older jack pines and replant seedlings to restore the warbler’s breeding grounds. WKAR

- ➤ East Lansing Police Department will soon use a texting tool that sends a brief survey after non-life-threatening calls so community members can rate their experience + share comments with the department. The new system, developed in partnership with PowerEngage on the PowerDMS platform, is expected to boost service quality and responsiveness. City of East Lansing
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Homes in Lansing now start around $100,000 as the tri-county average price dropped to $266,000 from last year, giving many buyers a chance to pay less than they do in rent. Realtor Robert Dowding said the market shifted over the past three months and he expects prices to fall even more before summer ends. FOX 47

- ➤ Lake St. Clair is the 10th best bass lake in America in Bassmaster’s 2025 list—one of seven top lakes in Michigan that show the state’s strong fishing tradition; local anglers may soon see increased interest and activity on these waters. WJIM AM
- ➤ Michigan State football is working to improve its offensive line after last season’s low rushing yards and many sacks. Coach Jonathan Smith said on July 31 and coordinator Brian Lindgren confirmed the team is deepening its line — aiming for better blocking ahead of the season opener on August 29.
